The Wells score for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) has been shown to be related to the probability of DVT of the lower limbs. In the event of clinical suspicion of DVT, a low Wells score (or an intermediate score, depending on the case) should lead to D-dimer measurement. A high (or intermediate, depending on the case) Wells score should be followed by a Doppler ultrasound of the lower limbs, without D-dimer testing, or regardless of the value of D-dimer testing if it has already been performed.
